Louise is right, infections can get bad before we realise it. When my daughter was around 16 months she had a cold and was pulling her ears. She didn't seem to bad so I didn't rush her to the doctor that day, I made an appointment for the following day. By that night she was hysterical, in so much pain, lethargic, becoming dehydrated, it was awful we took her to the doctor straight away and he mentioned that at such a young age they can go downhill really fast. I am so anal now as soon as she touches her ears we are off to the doctor! :)

You must NOT delay if you think your child has an ear infection, not only is it very painful for the child to swollow, which leads to them not eatting very much, it also can lead to an infection in the mantle part of the ear which can cause deafness if left untreated.

If your baby is pulling at his ears then he has an infection which needs to be treated. There is no herbal remendy for this. The poor little mite can not tell you how much this hurts. My daughter is three and has recurring ear infections as it is quite common when joining playgroups. I ignored the fact that she was not eatting very much and was reluctant to drink, and she did not tell me how sore her ear was until I got her up one morning and her ear drum had burst.

It is very common in children under five, get him looked at if he is tugging his ears, he may fight the infection on his own or he may need a bit of help. That is for a doctor to decide. Dont leave it to long like I did, as I felt terrible for my little one and now I am very maticulous about checking her ears every day.

If it's an ear infection you need to go to the doctor, he may need antibiotics. Ear infections can be really nasty if left too long without treatment.
