I need help removing odours from latex (clear) dummies!!

[deleted account] ( 8 moms have responded )

Can anyone tell me how to remove odours from my son's dummies?? I use the clear latex, orthodontic 'Nuk' ones and I wash them everyday. Boiling them doesn't help at all with the odour. I can't afford to keep replacing them all the time and it is really bothering me. They smell like some of his food but in an offensive way - kind or garlicy. Any recommendations would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks everyone. And Katherine - I didn't realise they contained BPA so that is a worry. Thanks for the info.

Honestly, if it stinks, I'd just toss it and buy a new one. It's not like they're $10 a piece. If you really don't want to throw them away, soak them in vinegar for an half an hour. I use vinegar to clean almost everything because it deodorizes.

Rub them with lemon juice or baking soda. I would think baking soda may work better.

The following Pacifiers DO contain chemicals such as BPA and/or Latex and should be discarded and/or avoided:

* Avent Pacifiers: (if NOT labeled “BPA Free”)
* Evenflo Pacifiers:
- Vizion Pacifier (if NOT labeled “BPA Free”)
- Fuzion Pacifier if NOT labeled “BPA Free”)
- Illuzion Pacifier if NOT labeled “BPA Free”)
* Gerber Pacifiers:
- Natural Flex Pacifier
- Nuk Button Pacifier
- Round Soft Center Pacifier
- Nuk Fashion Silicon Pacifier

When you smell that gas like smell it is unsafe to give your baby that pacifier. Here is a link I found for you:

I would try some vinegar. It works for getting all kinds of smells out, plus it naturally cleans all kinds of germs and bacteria.

Are you getting the BPA free? That's odd, I don't think that's normal......
