I need to train my 3 yr old to fall asleep on her own. Any advice?

I have one regret in raising my toddler -- I've never taught her to put herself to sleep! I have stayed in her bedroom, usually sitting right next to her bed, every night. She gets up and starts crying for me if I leave before she's fully out. Sometimes this takes 30 - 45 minutes. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this?

have you tried letting her listen to music while she falls asleep? that way she doesnt feel so alone. one thing you might have to do for a while is let her cry it out. tuck her in and leave the room. let her cry for a while and after about 10 min go in her room to reassure her that you are still there but it is time for her to go to sleep, she is a big girl and needs to go to sleep! its going to be hard on you too. but somethings has to be done
