Hi, I live in Chicago homeless,I have four children do to DV by my husband of over ten years,I was given a two year order protection and had to leave the home we had together. That was a couple years ago now, shelter to shelter in and out the city and I've still haven't been able to get on my feet! Very hard to stay in one place.my two oldest sons are 13 and 16years old,it was getting hard to find shelter that would take us because of there age or have enough beds for us all ..well,one think that I can say now and I've been able to do for the last 2years, by staying with a family member or friend in the area,is keeping my children in the same school.that was pretty important and nowThey're doing much better in school, thank God for that. my question is if anyone know where I can get help with counseling, housing and future planing, without having to go back into the shelter? I've called 311 and many others ..but they are all telling be I have to go back inTo a shelter..please if anyone know of a place that can help me without me having to go back to a shelter This info will help me a great deal, thank you!

i got to say your local church might be a good bet. because instead of being run by state money {which requires you to be in the worst case scenario before they will give help} they often are funded by local do gooders and you could also have the opportunity to do some volunteer work for them. helping out is sometimes great way to get help. and not feel like your just sitting there getting hand outs which a lot of state run things seem to want you to stay down do you know what i mean? it would also mean you'd meet people and socialize with nice people who have houses and if you ever need their help they would be handy to know. if your at a shelter you just get to hang out with homeless people who although very generous don't have a place to invite you to stay in when the s…. hits the fan sometimes. and church people love to help..they love to give and bake for people they get a buzz out of doing it. and sometimes state people re just doing their job but actually they hate their job. so id say go find the nicest church nearby and ask them :) even if you don't believe in god or jesus.
