I recently (as in about 2 months ago) found out that my little brother (who just turned 17) was abused by my moms boyfriend between the ages of 8-13. I don't know very many details other than according to my brother it "went pretty far." After my brother initially talking to me about it I tried to speak with him again on the subject. I told him that I support him 100%. I told him that I can get him out of his living situation that day. In order to do that though I need the support of other members of my family. He didn't want me to tell anyone. After that I kept it all in while actively trying to help my brother get out of the house. I told my family (aunts and uncles that Im close with) 2 days ago. It really hit me what has happened to him. Im wondering if there are any other people out there who have had younger sibling who have been abused. What steps were taken? I'm also struggling with the fact that by not telling my mom what I know I am allowing her to remain in a relationship with a child molester. However, I, nor any of the rest of my family, are in the same state as my mom and brother. Obviously this is not something to be discussed via phone and when everything (family/family friends/structure/support) goes haywire from this information, there isn't support for my brother or my mom.

I totaly agree with Jodi, it should be reported as soon as possible! And you and your brother should get help. And your mothers boyfriend should get punished!

Your brother is still a minor. You have an obligation to report this to child protection, no matter what your brother wants. This man needs to be dealt with appropriately. Your brother also needs to have the appropriate counselling, which he is not getting.
