I think my 5-year old son has ADHD. What can I do. Been to doctor and said his actions are NORMAL.

I agree with Jodi, he sounds perfectly normal. I have 2 boys (now 11 & 8.5) and my oldest one has always been able to sit still and watch a movie or things like that but #2 has always been an active kid. Even now he loves running around outside and has to be on the move but there is no way he is ADHD.

Again he's 5! There is now way he can be everything you expect in the list you wrote.

He's beginning primary school the 10th of September.
I told my husband that we will have to ask the teacher to keep an eye on him.
When he will be having problems at school, we can always take the next step.

I have to be honest, he's a 5 year old boy. It sounds pretty normal. Kids aren't programmed to be able to sit still for long periods of time, or to remain focused for long periods. I teach teenage boys, and believe me, after 15-20 minutes doing one activity, even they fidget. They are tough cookies to keep engaged and focused.

Is he having problems at school?

- Often leaves his seat in situations where sitting quietly is expected
- Moves around constantly, often runs or climbs inappropriately

Oh, yes, those internet analysis things are really accurate :\

By all means get a second opinion if you disagree, but DON'T base your opinion on an anecdote of someone whose 16 year old has been diagnosed and an internet analysis. Honestly, ADHD is highly overdiagnosed, and mothers trying to put labels on their children is not helping. It is highly possible he is perfectly normal. As I asked previously, what behaviour is it that is concerning you?

Hi Jodi,
Well, yesterday I was talking to a lady who's nephew has ADHD. He's 16 yrs old now but she told me things that my boy does also.
I also did a kind of analysis test on the internet and it said that is highly likely that he has ADHD.
My home country is Belgium and they are quite far already with testing but I live in Spain and over here all the kids are active so the doctor asumes that my boy is normal also.

What makes you think he is ADHD? 5 is pretty young to diagnose something like that. 5 year old boys like to be super active and hate sitting still naturally, so sometimes, it is normal behaviour. What is he doing that makes you think it isn't?
