A little background...my last period was 3/12/12 which originally put my due date at 12/17/12, however since I have PCOS and irregular periods, they performed a dating U/S and moved my due date to 1/17/13. Since then I have had 3 additional ultrasounds and my son has been measuring 2-3 weeks farther along than my due date. Currently as of tomorrow, I will be 35 weeks along according to the 1/17/13 due date, but everyone thinks I am farther along than that due date (including my OB who is having me schedule appointments with her backup in the event that I go into labor the last week of December when she will be gone). So I have been getting my hopes up that my son is going to arrive before the 1st!!! This would be more than wonderful for both financial reasons, mental reasons, and physical reasons for myself (I have the PUPPP rash).
So last Thursday, I had an appointment with my OB and she had stated that I was 50% effaced, but not dilated as of yet. Well yesterday at work I stood up from my desk and it literally almost felt like he had dropped into my pelvis. Then I woke up this morning around 4:30 with pain in my entire stomach along with a great deal of back pain. On top of that, I was having contractions about 5 minutes apart that hurt like crazy. I tried to go into work, but when the contractions were not subsiding and I was still in pain, I called my OB who told me to go in to the hospital. So I arrived at the hospital around 9am and they checked my cervix...still about 50% and not dilated. They kept me hooked up to an IV for 2 hours before they checked again...this time I was 1cm dilated!! They told me I could either stay there and have them monitor me, or I could go home and then come back if I feel any more intense contractions or my water breaks. I decided to go home, because my house has many more comfortable places to sit and relax than the hospital.
I know that everyone is different and some people go weeks being at this stage, but I am really hoping that he is going to continue to make a good steady progress in the right direction! :)
