I would love to be able to stay home with my baby and watch him grow! Unfortunately I cannot, we do not have the money for me to do that.. So I have been thinking, why not make my own business?

But where do I start? I have no business skills or education! So I stop now and think, what am I good at? Art, computers, doing creative things.. So I was thinking of maybe starting an online business where I sell baskets of baby goodies as baby shower gifts, or even handmade plushies and blankets.

Legally am I allowed to buy things from the stores and make them into to baskets to sell? I see people do this, but could I get into trouble? To save my butt, so to speak, what would I have to do to do this?

Is there a big enough market out there for me to do these things? I would love to be able to do this.. But how do I start? What is your experience? Help me, please!

I was thinking of making organic baby blankets, plush blocks, teddys, hats with ears.. things like that. :)

Unfortunately in my town we do not have any sort of flea market or anything I could go to to sell things every weekend.. Only craft fairs that happen a couple times a year. That would of been a really good idea though, thanks. :D

Why don't you look into making stuff and or buying good quality stuff eg clothing, baby clothing etc at op shops and selling it every sat or sun at some markets around your area. it would still take up a fair bit of your time but at least you get to work all week at home with your baby and would only need a small cash flow it get it started.

Really, I don't need lots of free time.. I only have one friend that I hang out with and she's the one helping me with this, so I get to see her often then. She's pretty book smart, so she's doing all the book keeping.. I just need to keep all my receipts for her.

And I don't get a lot of sleep as is. Haha.. I think I can handle the no sleep part.

I think the hardest part for me right now (and for a while) will be getting everything set up, figuring out the tax stuff, and working around my current job (which I need to keep until I can tell if my home business will be successful).

Would filing under a business name be best? If im not making a lot of money with this I would think that I should file it like normal, but I could be wrong..

LOL think starting your own business will give you lots of free time? I own my own business as does my husband, we pass eachother in the house going from one thing to the next. Yes we can keep our son home, but its not like working 8-5 at a normal job. There are things as a business owner you need to consider. As you said the legal stuff of this. Sales tax, insurance what is tax deductible. ifyou are going to file under a business name or your social security number.

honestly its hard to be self employed. are you willing to giv eup sleep when things need to be done? I just have to say the pay off is good for our businesses but many nights we loose sleep from thinking of what needs to be done.

Alrighty, so my friend is now helping me with my business. It's going to be great!

I also found a website that has a ton of info on how to make a home-based business... However, if any of you have advice I would be more than willing to read it! I can take all the support and advice I can get.
