If he is a teenager, what do you expect? If he is young, too young to understand the consequences of his actions, he should not have a phone. I think we need to know his age to better address this though.

Does he know you were looking at his phone?

I'd leave it alone. My son said fuck on facebook the other day. He'd just lost his football game and was extremely upset. I just left it alone. Sometimes a bad word is just a way of venting frustration. There are far worse things he could be doing in that respect.

if he's a teenager, I know how you feel mom, but at the same time he is building trust into you. He probably says more than one bad word. But if he knows that he can trust you he will always come to you if something is wrong or going on. if you tell him that you are snooping in his phone, he wont ever trust you again. but that's just my opinion.

First my question would be how old is your son? Depending on his age would determine the type of discipline I would use. No matter the age though I would talk to him about it. Ask him why he used the word and then have a conversation about words and their strength and how it reflects back on him.
