My 10-year-old daughter, who I adopted from China when she was 1, has no interest in going to China or learning Chinese. (She tried two years of Mandarin but didn't like it.) We share photos albums, books on China, etc., and she likes hearing her adoption story as well as coming home to Oregon. Anyone have any ideas to get her interested in her Chinese heritage?

You're right. I have to let her feel it naturally, and let her just be herself. I always thought if she learned Mandarin she'd want to return and learn her cultural history, but that's my vision, not hers. Thanks for the feedback.

You can force someone to be interested in something they're not. At 10 she has other things going on, so just her be a kid. I'd say as she grows up she will want to know more but right now it makes her different and she probably just wants to be the same as all her friends.
