Ideas for punishment for trying pot

I don't really believe in manipulating the behaviour of children and teens by using rewards and punishments. I think it runs the very serious risk of training kids to be people-pleasers and sneaky punishment avoiders (instead of actually learning right from wrong). It can also create a lot of nasty power struggles, where my goal isn't actually to have power and control my kids it's to teach them to make good and just choices - even when those choices won't make everyone happy. I'm not sure that you can stop a 14 year old from smoking pot by finding the perfect punishment. I think you need to really dig into this a figure out why your 14 wants to smoke pot, how she feels about smoking it again, what enabled her to smoke it, etc.
