if we break up, what rights does my childrens father posses?

Agreed with the others on this. What you seem to be hoping to hear is that he has no rights to his kids at all and that you have control over them no matter if you are married or not to him. They are not property and are not things you own. Children are humans with emotions and have rights to have relationships with each parent. It is not up to you if he can see them or not. In fact, if things are just right he could come and get them and not give them back to you so you would have to go to court to get custody set.

Without more information, its hard to give advice so I will tell you a couple different things. First and foremost, research your local laws because every place is different. Secondly, if you are married, you will have to go through family court to decide things like custody, visitation and child support. If you are not married.... I'm not really sure. Obviously, if he isn't on the birth certificate he is under no legal obligation to your children unless you go through the courts to prove paternity and then once paternity is established, again you will probably have to go through Family Court.
So basically, research your local laws, see if you can find a family lawyer who will do a free consultation and then use whatever local resources you have to find a lawyer who can help you without breaking the bank.
I hope I was even a little helpful.
