I have 3 children. 2 are fully grown and have families of their own and I have a son 16 years old, Me and their father are divorced and though they have a great relationship with their dad I have had primary custody. The rest of my family live in Ohio, parents, brothers, aunts and uncles etc. There is no work here where I am at and have a better opportunity if me and my son move there. I always have medical reasons for moving in which there are specialist there that hopefully can make my life more comfortable. I have been also dating my high school sweetheart who lives there as well and visits here often and my son enjoys being around. The problem is my son who is 16 doesn't want to move, he wants to go with his dad because he doesn't want to leave his friends and though I completely understand it keeps me awake at night wondering if Im doing the right thing. He seems fine with this whole situation since I wont be to far but a big part of me wants to make him go. Should I make him go or should I allow him to stay?? He is such a good kid, if I make him go will he rebell if I let him stay here with his dad, can I be strong enough. Love him so much and want whats best for him. So confused.

Thanks Michelle, Never easy for a parent to give their children their wings and your right that is what we raise them to do. I guess its normal for mom's to feel as if they are the best at nurturing and caring for their children though I know that is not always true. 51/2 hours away isn't so bad.( Sounds like Im having a harder time then he is.)

I think you have already answered your question.
He is old enough to make his own decision and if you m\force him to go he will rebel.
Of course you are strong enough, that what we raise our children to do. Leave home and make their own lives. Just because it's a little bit earlier than expected, you have been there before and know what it's like.
