im scared ,my 7 year old has been diagnosed with adhd ,and ive gor 3 weeks to decide if he needs to go on medication
Sherri has a good point. She spent over a year trying to figure out the best possible solution. Don't let anyone pressure you into making a decision. The doctor, the teacher, the psychologist...they all work for you. Not the other way around. Also, if you start a medication and he turns into a zombie child or is depressed or looses his appetite, demand something else!

try giving the child a glass of pop or cup of coffee. it should help calm the child down. I have ADD and i'm 29 I been drinking mountain dew or mello yellow for my problem it settle me right down.
I have too much energy that why pop settle me down and help me focus at work and school. I was on depression pills three months ago when I took myself off them. they did nothing for me. I still sleep 12 hours with a nine month baby. I work four jobs and go to school to keep me busy.

I through current experience think medication is best. We tried everything with my son for a year and half because of my fear of medication and in that year and a half things got so much worse. We almost lost our son he was in such a state of despair the only one we ended up punishing by not medicating because of our issues was our son. We have now started medication and it has been like the heavens have opened up. It has been a life saver.

There may not necessarly be a time limit sometimes they want to see the child again and you can say not at this point. its as simple as that. You are the parent and you decide what you want to do with it.
My son was diagnosed with depression, the doctor wants to see him every two months if we decide to go the meds route, continue with therapy more or less a way to keep tabs and see how things are progressing. My honest guess is that this is how your doctor is doing it.
