my 8 month boy has been fine all along then i noticed that he's started this jerking movement where he will throw his head back towards shoulder, hold out his arms and tens for a few seconds then it happens 4 five times in quick succession. he will cry out in between then they stop like nothing happened!!

You welcome Erin! I fully agree with you that these boards are very important not only as emotional support but as bouncing boards where you can get get fresh ideas. Because truth of the matter is....not all docs are the same so sometimes you just need to hear what other docs have said. As for what could be causing it...I have from 3 docs now that its just the normal development of his nervous system that causes involuntary movements. was told he will outgrow it as he grows into his body....he is a very happy little monster who is developing well so im happy. may your prayers for your little one go straight from your mouth to Gods ears!

Thank you, Silindile! I appreciate you letting us know the outcome! Did the neuro have any ideas of what the cause was? 2 more days until our appt and he seems to be doing well, so I'm optimistic! I will let everyone know just in case there are others in this situation. Of course, I agree with everyone that the 1st step is to go to the Dr... but I know these boards are helpful to share experiences. Thank you again!

Erin...God bless you I don't think you should worry too much-note i say too much cos asking you not to worry would be like asking fish not to swim. results from his EEG were clear, so his brain waves are ok. Like you his paediatrician was not too worried as he had not really seen anything like it(but he has years of exeperience). but for peace of mind still saw neurologist. As long as your little one is still eating, playing and sleeping well, i dont think you have anything to worry about. So you will go and they will tell you that your little one is fine, but its better safe then sorry! Good luck dear! will say a little prayer for you and your little one!

hey Erin and Shawnn! well im glad to tell that his scan came out clean..his brain waves are normal. well Erin like you his paediatrician was not convinced when i went to him with video as he had not really seen something like that, but just to be on the safe side went to neurologist. So go have the EEG or any other scan suggested by neurologist to be safe but if your little one is eating, playing and sleeping well, try not to worry yourself too much. i say too much cos not worrying would be like asking a fish not to swim. Good luck my dear, will be sure to say a special prayer for you and your little angel!

First of all, do you ladies realize how many people come on here to get stranger's opinions on what it 'might' be, and when asked if the child had been taken for an exam tell us "oh, I didn't think it was that serious", or "do you think a doctor will help"...

That's why you may get a snarky sounding response to a question that should be addressed by a physician.

Silindile, if you'd just put in that little tidbit... "I've recorded the incidents, and had the baby to the doc, just waiting for results"... it would have curtailed that response.

What, out of my own curiosity, did the doctor say? Was it something to be concerned about, or did he say it was within a 'normal' scope of development?

Have you gotten an answer to this? I am in the same situation. Saw ped and going to neuro next week. The ped wasn't "alarmed", but I could tell he doesn't or hasn't see this often based on his reaction to the video (young dr though). I'm sorry about the other response here.. that was rude.. I know how terrifying it is and the need to hear others experiences for the reasons you gave. Please let me know how everything turned out for you!

Michelle.... ofcourse i recorded him!...waiting to get results this friday.....but as i wait i find it always helps to hear from other moms who have possibly gone through the same thing. to either help calm nerves or to prepare me for possible outcomes...

Why are you asking a bunch of strangers on the internet rather than seeing your doctor?
Record it next time it happens and go to your doctor.
