Intuniv (Guafacine) and Sertraline (Zoloft) experience? Tell me!

Hi all, my brilliant 12.5 y/o son (7th grade) has always been angry, hyperactive and all manner of ADHD. Stimulents were terrible for his overall health so we stopped them after 1 year, when he was 9. 3-4 months ago doc suggested he has Dysthymia (low level depression) which manifests as anger in children. She suggested Sertraline, which has been amazingly great--no side effects and he is often sweet now, and happy, and so glad to be happy! But, impulse control issues have been increasing, and he's getting into trouble more often--and too often it is b/c he's 'choking' another boy with his hands around the boy's neck. (yikes!) He just reacts, can't take the time to think first. We are considering adding Intuniv, the extended release form of Tenex (Guafacine).

Please tell me your experiences!!!!...especially if your child has taken these two meds together. Please realize I have been an advocate of natural approaches, no meds, no chemicals in our food or our bodies, but it is not healthy for him to be getting in trouble and feeling bad about that all the time either, especially when he gets thrown out of school and then winds up flunking b/c he's so far behind.

Thanks much,

By the way one of the side effects of Intuniv IS violence and aggression. Same with Zoloft. Especially in older kids.

I have a suggestion but my son is only 5 and showing signs of ADHD. I have went the natural route with Standard Process whole food supplements. We have seen an AMAZING change. I don't truly know all the aspects of it. But we have seen a whole letter grade improvement. "Tantrums" no longer exist! I HIGHLY. Recommend doing the research. My husband struggled the same and was "medicated" all thru school. We decided to try ALL other means 1st! Good luck.
