Is 6 years apart too much?

My only child is about to turn 1, and I know would like to have another one day. But I don't think we can afford daycare for two. I'm thinking I'll wait until he is in 1st grade to have another, but isn't 6 years really far apart? Any advice from moms who have kids spaced out that far?

I have two kids that are 6 years 10 months apart, basically 7 years apart. My ex and I had our daughter and were asked barely after she was born if we would have second one soon. He was very adamant about not doing it so soon and even asked if people would pay the bills. So, I waited for a while. When our daughter had just turned six years old, we decided to try again. Two months after her birthday, we told her we were having a baby. She was so excited. She had been asking for a baby sister since she was two. No matter about the sister or brother thing, She was the most proud sister I had ever seen. I think she bonded with the baby before birth in such a way that when he came, it was almost instant closeness. Now at 23 and 16 they are still very close to each other. They have only had one real fight their entire lives when they were 10 and 3. I would say six years or more is not a bad thing.....its a unique thing.
