I am a man but my fiancee is pregnant with our third child. The first two were by C section (one emergency then the next after 16 hours of non progressive labour.) I would like to know if a C section third time round is mandatory. My fiancee is anxious and would like one given the traumatic experiences she has had with labour previously. I want what she wants. Any insight? (Sorry for gate crashing a mummy site!). Our other children are 2 and 10, my fiancee is 33.

Yeah I bet it did. I could imagine that would be more for un necessary c sections though since some people have them with no actual medical reason for the. Some doctors/clinics may have policies as far as the 3 strike thing. But not all. I'd be discussing it with doctor asap just so you know for sure.

Tina, Thanks! I thought it was mandatory...sort of "3 strikes" :-) I probably wont mention the Uterus Rupture bit as she is freaked out enough. This is our last bambino and I am just keen to know the "lay of the land" when it comes to mums rights. The previous 2 were no way near being born naturally and I know my Fiancee is anxious the hospital may say she has to try naturally! Reading about NHS cutbacks and reducing the number of C sections today made me panic!

It's not mandatory but in circumstances like your it may be suggested. The more c section you have the higher the risks of uterus rupture. Not to scare you. If that's what she truly wants it would be best to discuss this with the doctor. Under the circumstances there's no reason a doctor would deny you. I would be finding another doctor if they did.

I had a terrible birth with my son ended up having emergency c section. I was a little worried with my second since they were also close. We didn't make the final decision until just weeks before baby was due. Because I still kinda wanted a natural. But I made the decision which I thought was safest and even the doctor ended up saying we were making the right decision since the baby wasn't going to come out any other way lol

Goodluck anyway and congratulations on number 3. Hope everything goes smoothly for the both of you.
