My son is 8 years old, he was just diagnosed with ADHD and he is taking Concerta ER 18mg. I can notice some changes in his behavior when the effect passed (appetite and drama), and I'm not 100% sure to continue with the medication because of that. I was doing my research in natural products that can help him like Fish Oil. I would appreciate any brand and/or suggestion. Thanks! Martha

Hi Kelly, thank you very much for your comment! Yes please, I'm very interested in self discipline strategies and tips to re-active his social skills. On the other hand, it would be helpful to know a little bit about the help that the psychologist gave you. I'm checking with our insurance about coverage for therapy.
Thanks again!

Is this week National Class photo day? All the kids I know seem to be taking photos this week.

I used Concerta to control my ADD for several years. It does heavily suppress the appetite, which caused me to be more irritable than usual. Over time, I lost too much weight and had to stop the medication all together. At the time, I didn't have insurance to cover new medications (and all the trial and error doctors visits that go along with finding a new medication that works), so I began seeing a psychologist who taught me some behavioral modifications to help me deal with the ADD.

I am not sure how well they will work with a child--my child does not have ADD, but I do--as they do require a good deal of self discipline, but they helped me immensely. I can't share them all in one post, but if you would like me to share some with you, let me know what his biggest problem areas are and I will share different ways to approach those issues.
