Is giving a 2 1/2 month old apple sauce okay?

I was so upset! I walked in the kitchen and caught my husband giving our 2 1/2 month old son apple sauce.... He's always trying to sneak food to our baby. I was wandering if apple sauce could hurt him in any kind of way?

I don't know why people are so keen to feed babies. It's not much of a consolation, but your husband isn't unique. Lots of dads and grandmas and childless uncles suffer from this behaviour. Better apple sauce than ice cream, candy or beer.

Most likely, the apple sauce isn't going to hurt your baby. It's a little acidic, but it's not poison.

That said, your husband needs to stop doing this. From 0 to 6 months babies should have breastmilk, and if that isn't possible they should have infant formula. Young babies don't eat a lot so what they do eat has to have the right balance of nutrients, calories and fat. Apple sauce is not going to kill your baby, but it's not going to promote the best possible digestive health.

While applesauce is one of the recommended "first foods", it is NOT recommended to start 'solids' (which is what applesauce is considered) until later. Your child can develop severe allergies if foods are introduced too soon.

Baby gets enough from breast milk or formula. When they start being 'interested' (reaching for, trying to put in mouth) foods, then you can start slowly introducing solids, one food at a time, and wait 3-4 days between new choices to determine allergic reactions if there are any. At the very least, applesauce and other solids should not be introduced before 4 months, and closer to the 6 month stage.

Apple sauce is one thing you could use to start your baby on foods. I wouldn't recommend giving the baby a lot. especially at first no matter how old they are. it could cramp them up and make them poop a lot and they aren't happy. I think its okay to let the baby taste things now and then. just be careful its not a solid at this point and not a lot of anything.A babys digestive system isn't able to handle those kinds of things yet that is one reason we don't give them solids at a young age. this is just my opinion.
