is he too big for a 5 month old?

My 5 1/2 month old is above the 99th percentile in both weight (24 lbs) and length (30 inches), he wears 18 month old clothing and is in toddler nappies. I've been told by a pedi that I'm overfeeding him (7 oz at roughly 5 - 6 times) however he doesn't have any rolls, only a dimple on his thighs, and you can see his spine and ribs. I've been told to cut his feeds down by at least an ounce but this has only resulted in lots of hysterical screaming ... what should I do?

No worries :) He's perfect in every way. My baby boy is still in the 90th percentile for height and weight and the size of his big noggin. He's 2 and wears a 5t. Everyone is right. He'll eat if he's hungry :)

How big was he when he was born? If he's on the same curve he's perfectly normal, but if he was a 6lb baby, there may be some concerns. But he does sound in proportion. Someone's baby has to be in those top percentiles.

You should get a new doctor! Like Sharon said if he was in the10th percentile for length then you might need to look further into it. But he is in proportion, so don't stress. Don't cut down his feeds, if he is crying he needs the nutrition. Don't listen to this doctor, work off your sons cues.

I think he'e fine. If he were in the 10th percentile for length & 99th for weight then that may be different. But he's longer than most, so it makes sense he'd be heavier than most, according to the charts.
My eldest was around the 60th for weight & 90th for height up until about 10/11mths, and everyone kept telling me how huge he was.

Just keep feeding him what he wants. If he's hungry he'll eat it if not he won't. You should find that when he starts eating food/more food the weight gain will slow down.
