Is it alright to allow our baby use a tablet?

My baby Nikko is only 2 years and 7 months old. I am amazed that at this very early age he knows how to open the Tablet, look for Youtube by himself without asking our help. He will search and watch his favorite shows like Pocoyo, Mickey Mouse, ABC & Phonics and nursery rhymes. Do I have to be worried or not?

Anabelle--your child needs more time in one on one play not one on one youtube time. He needs to be engaged in playing with all sorts of toys, looking at books with you and reading them, and pretending things. At this age, TV is mostly a babysitter not an educator.

Thanks Raye Ramsey for the suggestion. I am usually on his side when he is using the Tab. I see to it that when he is holding the Tab I am on his side, the fact that he is the only one I am attending to the whole day at home and I am also guiding him what he is watching that is why I know what are his favorite shows. And from the shows he is watching he is learning. When the Tab is hidden from him then he would resort to play alone and starts mimicking Pocoyo and all other characters of Pocoyo.

No need to worry because I see to it that what my baby is watching is something wholesome and educational.

You should always monitor what your kids are doing on electronic devices. Your tablet should not be used as a babysitter, and you should not assume that he's only viewing innocent content. He could very easily get into something inappropriate. Please ALWAYS monitor your kid's use of electronics until they are 18 years old.
