Is it just me being overstressed or am I being irrational when my 2 year old son spills something everyday?

I swear he just loves to see me at 9 monthes pregnant cleaning up spilled milk or cereal or some other mess that happens daily here! I just wanna cry half the time because I'm so tired of cleaning up spills. He does help me with picking up the toys and likes to help out around the house, but I don't want to give him cups anymore! He spills it literally everyday!

Is he doing it to be defiant? (picks up the cup, looks at you, dumps it on the floor)

If that's the case, yes, I'd agree he loses the privilege of getting free access to a cup.

But toddlers are clumsy, they can't help it. Even when they're trying to be careful, their fine motor control is just not developed enough to be as careful as an adult is.

One thing that helped my toddler not spill is we told him that the cup always sits on the snake on his placemat, and remind him and move it there when he forgets. (the snake is in the top righthand corner) He can understand that, and it keeps it clear of his elbows which was the main spill danger.

If he's not being careful, or thrashing around being silly, I just move the cup out of his reach until he settles down again.

If he spills every day, maybe he's not ready for a cup. A sippy cup might work better? Or get a cup with a wide base so it's hard to spill? I can certainly understand you not wanting to clean up a spill every day.
