All he knows is that he is hungry and you are not feeding him!!!!! He doesn't actually understand the behaviour, his instincts are just freaking out because you took the food away when he needed more - how dare you!! LOL :)

I would probably say it isn't a hissy fit. He was probably still hungry and didn't realize why his food was being taken away for the burp. When my son was newborn, he would do the same thing when he needed a burp or to change sides. They are still really little and don't realize reasons for things.

my daughter always wanted to get way more then was recommanded. And she cried about 20 hours a day the only relief was when she was eating or sleeping (which was very for and far between). I later found out from a very nice doctor in in my pediatricians group that there is a for of acid reflux where the child would no longer vomit but it gave them extremely painful heartburn. The only relieve came when she was eating. The gave us a prescription of prevacid( this was after about 10 visits to our regular doctor). It was like a day and night improvement, it really worked wonders. We started weaning her from it at nine months. Because she ate more solids. we havent had any problems since. and she is the perfect weight for a 11 month old. Now if she would only sleep through the night, (yes i said it i have a almost 1 year and still have to get up a least once a night).

Didn't you give the example of when you stop feeding him to give him a burp he throws a fit?

[deleted account]

Like Amanda, I wouldn't call it a hissy fit or a tantrum. Just didn't know where his food had gone!

[deleted account]

Don't know about at 6 months, but at 9 months my son once screamed for 20 minutes because I took my cell phone out of my purse before I let him play w/ my purse. NO amount of attempting to distract him did a thing until HE decided he was done throwing his fit.

@ julianne thankyou just got worried because my other two kids never did this

[deleted account]

Yep, its normal, ignore it. Especially if he holds his breath, don't panic, he will eventually breath again . Gabby did that. And i ignored her, so it went away. It is scary when your child holds their breath and turns red though. Just ignore it. Don't panic. If he sees a reaction, he will do it more frequently.
