Is it normal for a 5 year old to get a crush on a boy?

My daughter is 5 and has a crush on a boy that is 8 he is in my sons cub scout troop. She talks about him all the time, she also has crushs on boys on TV ranging from like 8- 12 years old, and she talks about what their kids names will be and saying things like "I can't wait to have a baby." Is this normal? If she is so crazy about boys now what will she be like as a teenager?

Kids this age mimic a lot of behaviour that they witness. Is there an older sister, cousin, friend, etc. around that acts this way? Does she have access to television programming where boy-girl relationships are discussed (even a lot of Disney programming explores this)? My guess is that she may not fully comprehend exactly what these things actually mean. Maybe you need to sit down with her and explain that boy-girl relationships are for people that are much older, that it's okay to be friends with boys, but babies have to wait, that only adults have babies.

Totally normal. My daughter talks about getting married and having kids all the time. She also has pretend husbands and around 50 (!) pretend children. They mimic what they see in life. Don't know where my daughter got the 50 babies thing...but I digress.

I repeatedly tell my daughter that to have babies she has to be married. Man, woman, other...I don't care as long as they are in a long term and committed relationship. We also talk about how Mommy and Daddy waited almost 6 years to get married, and another 4 before we had her. Sit down talks with 5 year olds don't really work...but whenever she mentions these things you can always interject your own "advice". Repetition is key. ;)

I had crushes on 3 different boys when I was 5. However I didn't talk about having babies, so that much might not be entirely common. I'm going to second Sarah's advice on this one.
