Is it normal for a 6 months old to wake-up every 2-3 hrs at night for feeding?

Hi everyone,

I have a 6 month old baby girl who was sleeping for 4 to 5 hrs. of stretches when she was about 3-4 months old. However, since last month and a half she has been waking up at every 2-3 hrs. strictly for feedings. She wakes up crying and if I try to rock her or put her back to sleep, she may be OK for few seconds and then cry again for food. And if I just feed her she just goes back to sleep right away without any fuss. When she wakes up at night, she would have about 2-3 oz. of breast milk. I recently have started solids so she would have oatmeal cereals with milk for dinner and within 1/2 hr. I would breast feed her again before putting her to sleep. So I know she is going to sleep full stomach.

Her pediatrician is saying that she should be able to pull a night with out night feedings so you may just have to let her cry out and let her fall a sleep on her own. I tried it for 10 mins. but she would cry louder and louder till I don't feed her.

Are any of you experiencing anything similar to this? Any suggestions that you can give so I can allow her to sleep longer stretches.

Sounds normal to me. Some babies do it... some don't. Could be a growth spurt. If she nurses right back to sleep... go with that.
