Is it normal for my 12 month-old to sleep so much when starting daycare?

My soon-to-be one year-old has just started at daycare part time (3 or 4 days a week, 5-7 hours/day). He's only been there for less than a week, and when at home, he sleeps WAY more than usual. Our schedule at home has been:

7:30-8 wake up and breakfast

9-10ish nap for about 90 minutes

11 or 12 lunch, then to sleep for 90 minutes to 2 hours

between 5 and 7pm- another nap

about 10pm-sleep for the night.

At daycare, wake up is the same time, but he doesn't go to sleep until 11am, and sleeps only for 1.5hours. He's SO tired by the time we pick him up around 3pm that he falls asleep on the way home and sleeps through supper. Now he's had a few days off, and he sleeps naps on our home schedule, but much longer, like 3 hours. Any advice or experience about starting at daycare? I still breastfeed him, and he doesn't take a bottle, but drinks quite well from a sippy cup. When he's not sleeping he wants to be nursing! I don't want to stop breastfeeding completely. Maybe I should ask the daycare to let him sleep an extra nap in the morning. He's always been a ray of sunshine, but now he's like a stormcloud! :D I suppose that's normal when making the daycare transition..?

At daycare they have 3 hours allotted for nap. Hopefully eventually he'll sleep longer there. He came down with a cold and fever just after I posted my question so feeling under the weather played a part, too. But yes, I suppose daycare is much more stimulating and taxing on my little guy than being at home with mama! :)

He's worn out! Daycare is a busy, stimulating place. If I am reading your post correctly, he was sleeping approximately 14.5 hours a day. After starting daycare, the schedule you list still adds up to somewhere around 14-15 hours. So, technically, he's still sleeping about the same amount. His little body is programmed for 14. That's what he's way or the other :)

Is he allowed to sleep longer than 90 minutes at daycare, or are they waking him up at a specific time?
