My daughter is 20 months old, she is familiar with the alphabets and its sounds, can distinguish numbers 1-10, and can read some three-letter words even four like cow, duck, ant,cold,fish,dog,etc... She doesnt speak yet only babbles to us when talked to. But she stamp her feet and babbles when we dont give in to what she wants. She is a sweet baby but doesnt kiss us and only wave byebye very often. She laughs and plays a lot at home but is very quiet when we bring her outside. I am very concerned of my daughter that she could have autism. Please advise. Thank you mommies in advance.

I don't get why you are looking for a problem? She sounds perfectly normal, advanced in some areas. Has your pediatrician voiced a concern? Just because some 20 month old babies can speak, some only say a few words. She obviously can hear you and understand you. If she is quiet at times, that's normal. Not kissing and waving are not symptoms of autism. Finally, 20 is too young to diagnose a spectrum disorder. I see many, many posts like this and I understand the feeling of hoping your child is a typical child and that she will face few challenges, but when you are scrutinizing her development so carefully you start to project your worry on her. If she is autistic (which I doubt) you will find out over time and deal with it, what choice do you have? Stop worrying and measuring and enjoy her!

Sounds like a perfectly normal 1.5 year old to me.

You need to stop comparing your baby to others. Every child is different - that's what makes us all unique.

Thank you so much for your answer sarah. I know, i am just a very worrisome mom. At work, My officemates kept comparing their babies to mine and that adds to my worries. Yeah, i will just enjoy my daughter now. She doesn't stay a baby forever. Thanks a lot.
