lol at Batman... but yes, leaving a baby to cry CAN sever vital brain connections and cause permanent damage. Now... 5 minutes here and there when you have to pee or something.. not an issue, but 'sleep training' and/or just leaving a baby to cry alone at night absolutely can cause permanent and irreversible damage. I know foster parents that tried to reverse the damage done to the children in their care (damage that was done before they got them)... and it's impossible.

I also find it interesting that you used the term "abandon". Defined, that means to cease to support or look after (someone); to desert; to give up completely.
Who does that to a child? And infant?
If your baby is crying, chances are there is something it needs, and yes, comfort counts for something. Allowing a child to cry it out DOES have effects on their brain development and negatively affects their emotional development. There is scientific research that has shown this.

I thought it was okay with my kids, but am having second thoughts. I think that its a way that our society makes us hurt our children, to feel abandonment and fear... in many cultures it's okay to co-sleep and children grow up sleeping in their own bed eventually...

How can you can you do that? I hear Batman all over the house and even in the basement. Can that really cause brain damage like Dove said? I can't stand to see Batman cry. His little bottom lip pokes out and he looks so sad. I have to comfort him.
