Is it ok to give a 4 year old a dummy at bed time...

My son was about 3 1/2 when he gave his up. This was way to long, and it messed up his teeth. The dentist can tell immediately and says he has binky mouth.
What worked for us? He loved gum. For every night he didn't use a binky he got gum, even at bedtime (he could chew it for a few minutes during story time and had to spit it out). The first time we did this, he was over the binky. Of course be careful for chiking hazards etc.

So when you say you've tried fairies and Santa, what do you mean?
If you leave them out for the fairies/Santa to take they get taken away and never given back.
If it's because they won't give them up for the fairies or Santa maybe get them to throw it in the bin. That way they can't be taken out. Throw them in the bin when they aren't sucking on it and say something like: "You're a big kid now, let's throw the dummies in the bin." Make it lighthearted and exciting.
My 2nd was around the same age and we just refused to buy any new ones once the old ones deflated, he soon gave up. Our Daughter put them in a gift bag one night for the fairies to take to the little babies and she just gave it up.
