He was not always like this. He was sleeping through the night for a while. lol Raye... my son apparently didn't read the manual on what he 'should' have done.... 10-11 hours (waking 1-5 times, like I said) was his normal... as was catnapping. I don't think he ever napped longer than 45 minutes at a time until he was only napping once a day. Then he'd nap as little at 5 minutes or as long as 3.5 hours.

Have you had your child properly diagnosed with particular allergies? If so, then you should talk to your doctor about treating them. If not, then you shouldn't just assume they are allergies, and you should consult a doctor about it. There are some medicines available on the market for infants to help alleviate symptoms, but you should also identify what the allergies are for best results.

Do not give any medication to your infant unless it is prescribed by a doctor.

Not sleeping through the night is NORMAL. None of my kids slept through the night at 9 months old. I had twins that slept 12 hour nights at 6 months old... for a month. Then they were up once or twice a night til they started sleeping through again at 14 months.

Then there was my son who was up 1-5 times/night, EVERY night (w/ maybe a handful of rare exceptions) until he was TWO YEARS OLD.

Some babies sleep through the night early, some don't do it for years. Accepting that and dealing w/ it is just part of being a parent. It's not an EASY part, but that's just how it is.... It doesn't last forever.

Your 9 month old should be taking 2 naps per day for a total of about 2-3 hours per day plus sleeping 11-12 hours at night. You should be putting him to bed drowsy, but not yet asleep so he can learn to fall asleep on his own. That way, if he wakes during the night, he can self-soothe and go back to sleep without having to be picked up.

I agree with Jodi about the allergies. You should be talking to your pediatrician on how to alleviate the child's symptoms.
