Is it possible that newborn is not gaining weight?

I have a newborn who is 9 days old. He weighed 7 lbs 4 oz at birth. Before getting discharged from the hospital his weight went down to 6lbs 11 oz. A home health nurse took his weight the day after we came home and told us he was at 6 lbs 15 oz. I was really happy that it sounded like my little one was well on his way back to his birth weight. He is giving at least 6 wet diapers and 4 poop diapers, which is supposed to be the minimum for his age but I'm still worried that I'm not making enough to milk for him. So I bought a baby scale and weighed him today and it looks like his weight is down to 6 lbs 11 oz. Is it possible that newborn is losing weight even though diaper output is good or is the scale that I bought broken? I'd like to hear other people's experiences. I'm worried and perplexed.

Accuracy of scales vary and when you are talking about a newborn the only way to get a totally accurate weight is using the same scale under the same circumstances. If he is nursing frequently and staying hydrated... I wouldn't worry about it. It 'can' take up to a month before a baby has regained his/her birth weight.

Since you now have a scale at home you can go ahead and wait about a week and see what the comparison is to your scale.... but again, as long as he's nursing frequently and staying hydrated like it sounds... I wouldn't worry about it at this point at all. Having a home scale isn't necessarily a good thing for a worrying first time mom. ;) ♥
