Is it safe to breastfeed while I have a cold?

I have an 8 month old daughter whom I am still breastfeeding. I heard that it is ok to continue breastfeeding even though I have a cold. I am worried about the kind of remedy I can take. So far I've been taking only 1-2 tylenol during the day to help me. I am trying not to cough or sneeze so much, but I don't think its getting any better and I'm afraid I might get her sick.

yes it is safe to continue breastfeeding your little one in fact its the healthiest for your littleone when you are sick because it keeps her immune system strong. You will need to be careful what kind of meds you take. You can ask your doctor which mediation and how much would be safe while breasfeeding or you could even call or go ask a pharmasist near you.

Absolutely! If your sick most likely your baby has been exposed to the the same germs as you already. Your breast milk provides antibodies that help your baby fight what you both have been exposed to. Breast milk also has antiseptic qualities so if baby gets a stuffy nose or goopy eyes just add a few drops of breast milk to thier nostrils or eyes to help relieve symptoms.

I am not sure what you can tack but all the old things would be good for you like Vit C and vicks rum and steamers are great to get rid of any colds and dose not hurt the baby if you need something more to get better it is best to vist your GP there is products out there tat will not hurt bubby. :)

I was told by my doctor not to take any meds while breast feeding. If I needed to take tylenol just to take the infants because it goes straight to baby. He said it's ok if I was sick. I never took anything while breast feeding.

Yes, but many cold meds are not safe to take when bfing. Talk to your doc and/or ped for a list of safe meds. HTH!
