Is it wrong for your kids to say "fart"?

I have a two-year-old and when he toots he tells me that he "farted". My in-laws taught him to say that he "passed gas" and they think it is gross to say the word "fart". I don't want him to get in trouble from them for saying it when he is with them. I don't see anything wrong with him saying the word "fart" as long as he isn't being gross about it (which he isn't).

I guess this is an objective question. It's up to you whether you think it is appropriate or not. However, if they are in their home and are offended by it, then maybe he needs to learn that at their house, he uses words that they are comfortable with - that is a valuable life lesson. After all, as an adult, there is sometimes language you will use in the presence of certain people, but I can tell you now, I'd never say fuck in my grandmother's house, simply out of respect for her. The same principle applies - while he may not get it right, he will learn that sometimes, we have to moderate our behaviour for the situation.
