Well, in some cases, it's a boy's name, in your case (and in Jansen's case below) it is a girl's name.

I've gotta say, with a name like Shawnn (and I'm female) I've heard all of the comments...LOL

I love the name. My sons name is Jamison and I have met a girl with the same name but she goes by Jamie to be more feminine, so when your daughter gets older and wants to be more girly if she feels it is too masculine she can use Jan even if she wants. It is perfect for both.

I would say it sounds like a boys name but since you already named your daughter that, why ask? It's already been done. :)

My sons name is Jolan which I never heard before I found it it has both Hungarian and native american ancestry which is perfect because I am a combonation of both (and then So I am all for names that can be unisex and are considered "uncommon" And just like you I cant see him with any other name. I am having a baby girl May 2nd(scheduled c-section) and her name will be Alyra which I cant find on any baby name site or book and thats fine with me!! :)

i think boy when i hear it, but my first name is Jo and where i was raised it was common to put both first & middle together "Jo Ann". But who cares what it people think went they hear the name. It's very pretty, if anyone gives you grief tell them to have their own kid and name them what they want. but i'm alittle rude. bye

At first glance I immediately thought BOY. But after some thought, it seems that it could go either way. I like it. I especially like Elizabeth because it's my middle name lol If I ever have a girl I will name her after me...sorta...I like Alyssa Beth...close enough to Elizabeth but her own name.

I think it's a beautiful name. Initially, I thought it could have been a girl or boy's name, but now I'm not really sure I could see it for a boy... Anyway, I think it is a lovely name and definitely fitting for a lovely lady!

LOL - My maiden name is Jansen, and my sister is Elizabeth Jansen! I don't see it as a first name at all, but that's only because I've lived with it as my last name for 30+ years ;)

I think it goes both ways! For a girl she could shorten it to Jan when she's older if she wanted. How did you come up with the name?
