Is my 26 month old done napping?

It takes FOREVER to get him to nap 80% of the time. HOURS. And then he won't go to sleep until 10 or 11 at night! If we do get him to sleep in the afternoon he will sleep anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. If he doesn't nap (in other words, all attempts fail!) he will go to bed at 7:30 very easily. He wakes up at 7:30 every morning regardless of when he goes to bed. Oh, also, it takes HOURS to get him to go to sleep at night if he has had a nap! It is driving me CRAZY. It's just sometimes he really really seems to need a nap (and some days will even ask for one). But other days not so much. When he skips his nap he turns into "crazy drunk baby" in the evenings (very happy zippy wired) and then crash asleep at night. So it isn't like he gets cranky or tantrums...I just feel like maybe he shouldn't ever be totally crazed? Is it wrong for him to skip a nap, get all wired in the evening, and then plunk, crash at 7ish? I worry he is overtired. I don't know!!

We found what works best for us is "quiet time". My kids don't have to nap they just have to spend at least one hour in their beds doing something quiet (reading books, playing their Leapster, playing quietly with 1 toy). The only rule is it has to be quiet. My 7yo still loves this time. If your son falls asleep so be it if not you still have one hour of peace.
