Who is 'they'? Is your son having difficulties digesting gerber? Is he getting the proper nutrients and thriving?

It depends. Why do they want to change it? (By "They" I assume you mean his doctors).

Generally, it is advised to pick one formula and stick to it, however, there are many reasons that doctors might recommend a change. It will most likely upset his tummy for a few days, but if he is having a bad reaction to the current formula, such as GERD, reflux, constipation, diarrhea, failure to thrive, or failure to absorb certain nutrients, it is best to change as soon as possible. The upset tummy will last only a few days and have no permanent effect, but left unchecked, other issues could do long term damage to his tummy.
