Ive heard that if you raise your hands above your head during pregnancy,
your babys umbilical cord could become wrapped around his/her neck .
is this true ?

I had a few people joke with me about that wive's tale when I was pregnant because I was always moving like crazy with dance moves that invovled my arms over my head during our spring show but I was never told anything serious about it.....little girl is fine.

Myths like this are started by women like me. I have hubby convinced that cleaning cat litter is dangerous for women who are not only pregnant, but breastfeeding and trying to conceive. It has given me 4 years cat litter free :))

I heard this too, and not to color your hair. No fish and many more. I think there probably tons more. I was thinking about the old wives sitting around telling stories. I think that is to funny.

No its a myth , a pretty funny one life would be VERY hard if that were true LOL , your umbilical is in no way attached or affected by your arms .

You do have to be careful not to lift heavy weights but dont worry about lifting your arms over your head .

totally an old wives tale. The thing to be careful with lifting is how much and to listen to your body. If it's too much for you, don't push it and listen when your body tlels you to slow down. Good luck, and congrats!

People warned me not to do that, but it's an old wives tale. Women that had babies about 40 years ago were told not to do it.

Who the heck are these old wives that make up such things??? Probably wives that didn't want to lift a finger while they were pregnant... I am not sure how the mom lifting her arms above her head has anything to do with what the umbilical cord is doing....

I am up for making up some new old wives' tales... against some things that I absolutely don't want to do..... I don't mind lifting my hands above my head, but I HATE laundry.... or cooking dinner these days....

My new old wives' tale: Don't stand in front of a hot stove, because it will heat up the amniotic fluid and stress the baby. Order take out instead.... lol. I like this!

yes it is i was told the same thing and you seriously are not supp to lift anything over 5lbs

I was teaching school when I was pregnant. I did all sorts of things... raised my hands, stood on chairs, carried heavy is fine. I did have some older teachers tell me not to raise my hands (I was in the hallway hanging up student work) so I think it's one of those old wives' tales. Doc never mentioned it to me.
