Is six weeks old too early to start a bedtime?

She has been falling asleep on her own at around 11:30 or 12am which worked for the first few weeks because i was staying up that late anyway for my hubby to come home from his night shift. HOWEVER...i often feel the need to go to sleep sooner than midnight these days! It would be nice to start baby on a more convenient sleep schedule where we could both go to sleep for the night at 8 or 10 pm. Am I asking too much of such a young baby?

Yes you are stuck until she reaches around 4mo's. My son is 4mo's and he goes down at 9:30pm and sleeps till 5am. He eats quickly and then back to sleep till at least 8am. He has done this since he was 8wks old and yes he is exclusively breastfed.

I strongly disagree that you have to wait till 1 or 2yrs old. That seems pretty insane to me.

Both my kids were sleeping 7pm-7am by 6 weeks old, they are 4 and 2 and are still on the same sleep pattern.

I'm not sure I must have had early bird kids because mine would go for a nap at 4 then sleep until 7 then want to go back to bed after a feed and just wake to feed until 7 when they wanted to be up from the start. They just seemed to mimic us, we always go to bed at 830 so damo can get up for work at 4am. my kids at 2 and 1 still go to bed at 630.

Ok thats what i suspected. I dont mean to sound mean or impatient, just a new mommy trying to figure it all out! Thanks for the help

My 2 month old doesn't go to bed until late. Its near impossible to reschedule a baby. Unless you do something drastic like letting baby CIO which is very bad for a baby..

Oh im not asking her to sleep through the night, just to be able to put her to sleep at a consistent EARLIER time. She does sleep very well though...only wakes up once or twice to eat really quick then falls right back to sleep.

Yea, you're probably asking too much. 6 weeks is usually too young for a baby to sleep through the night.
