My husband is Ukrainian and has very dark skin, I am a fair and freckled and redhead. My kids look like dad, the first baby I was mistaken for the nanny. I often get asked if they are adopted.
When people would ask if they were mine I tried to make a joke of it, "I hope so, cause I pay a fortune for the diapers" or "why, do you want to make an offer to buy one?" Or "no, I just found these four kids roaming the street so I took them!"
Now that they are older it does not happen. When your daughter can speak she will call you mama and people will stop.
I do admit I snapped a few times, it hurts. I carried them and gave birth and nursed them, why did anyone even care?

That is extremely rude! There are so many different types of families now people should not be so quick to judge. I am assuming this is your biological child, but if she were not, it could be very hurtful to a child and parent in an adopted family. I am so sorry to hear that you are having this problem. My suggestion to you would be to politely, but short, tell them that she is in fact your child, it is important for your child to see you handling these situations in a positive manner. Then, when your daughter asks you why people keep asking that question, because I am sure she will if she hasn't yet, explain to her that everyone is unique and that even though she doesn't look exactly like you she is your daughter and you love her very much. I hope that this will stop for you soon!
