is there anything to worry about if my 22 months old baby does not utter any meaningful word at all?

My baby is 22 months old and he does not utter any meaningful word at all. When he was around 8 or nine months old he used to address his grandpa and also say mamma and pappa. But as the days are passing by, instead of any further development he has stopped saying those previous words as well. He seems to be quite an intelligent toddler. He understands my emotions, he can bring me things when I ask for. He is also good at expressing his emotions. The only thing which is killing me is his inability to say any word. He does not even say mom or pappa. He indicates his wants and pushes us to his desired places. I have tried several times to encourage him to mimic certain words but whenever i do that he becomes nervous, frightened and even starts crying. I keep on trying for hours. I try to be very nice and soft. But sometimes i lose my patience and scold him, then I regret a lot. My baby boy is a very handsome one and my in-laws and my parents are extremely worried about my baby not talking and continuously remind me to take him to a doctor. The whole thing is extremely upsetting for me and I badly need your suggestion.
