I also live in Australia. Although I am not a war widow, my husband died 7 months ago after 2 years of fighting cancer. Our son was 4 months old at the time. I felt unbelievably low at the time, not even my sons first words "mama" could get a smile from me, I felt only numbness. I've had some serious professional counselling and now I do enjoy my son, but I'm not sure if I'm still depressed or just grieving. I know what you mean about other mothers groups, its almost like I'm the only one in the world rasing a child alone with noone to share him with. I don't know if I'm able to help you as I'm really still struggling day to day, often not sure if I'll make it.

It's a gradual process, and what was most helpful for me was to seek out resources that offered me support for my parenting. Counselling and mom groups where you can go and take your baby and talk to other moms as well as professionals that will answer your questions and just listen to you if you need to vent. Talk with your doctor about things you can do/try that will ease your ppd. It's not something that goes away over night, but it WILL get better as long as you are talking to people and getting yourself out there. You've had a rough start to motherhood, and it's going to take a while for your heart to heal, but take it one day at a time and find something about everyday that's positive. ♥

Danielle, I've not experienced such a great loss like you have, but I have suffered post-partum depression. I just wanted to lend my support to you and welcome you to CoMs. I hope you're able to get in touch with other moms that have shared your heartbreak, but I also hope you're able to find some comfort in the fact that we are all here for you, anytime you want to talk ♥
