I started my 15wk old son on rice cereal this week because he seems to be wanting more food. I have noticed that he has developed congestion in his nose could this be an allergy to the rice cereal? I wanted opinions because I was thinking of adding it to his bottles too because he tends to spit up everytime he drinks a bottle. He has been at 6oz now for about 6wks. If it is an allergic reaction should I try the oatmeal?

Maybe he's going through a growth spurt. At 15 weeks you shouldn't be giving him any solids let alone putting them in his bottle. Give him more formula and wait a couple more months, maybe then he'll be ready for solids.

Does he have reflux? Or is he a happy spitter? My first spit up ALL the time until around 9 months, but it didn't bother her at all. No crankiness or issues of any sort. She was just a happy spitter. My younger one actually spit up a lot less than big sister, but he did have reflux. Super cranky and wanted to nurse ALL the time (nursing was his comfort). He did need meds and out grew the reflux by 6 months.

The 4 months for solids is a bare minimum... 6 months is the 'current' recommendation.

Do whatever you want. He's your kid. Maybe you could ask the doctor if he/she thinks it's an allergy.

So am I doing my math right isn't 16wks 4months?? He is taking the cereal fine I am not concerned about him taking it. I was only concerned as to if the moms thought he was having an allergic reaction to it. I know you know as well as I do we all KNOW our own babies and as his mother I have been right before about what to give him. I am not concerned that he isn't growing enough. My first son took the whole 8oz bottle by now. I am not about to add to his formula when he is spitting up still. I have heard several doctors reccommend putting rice cereal in the babies bottle when they tend to spit up. I would much rather try that than be put on any medicine for it.

He's too young for solids. Doesn't matter what you 'think' he's ready for. He's not even 4 months old yet. Solids should not start before 4-6 months old and the closer to 6 months (or even later) the better. Granted, my doc DID say it was ok to start at 3.5 months my first time too, but I wouldn't do it again.... and didn't.

If he's continuing to grow and thrive he's getting enough from the bottles even if he seems to spit up everything. Size is not an automatic indicator that a baby is ready for solids. My son was just barely under 13 pounds at 2 months and he wasn't ready to even START solids until 6 months....

I don't know if the congestion could be a food allergy or not. I wouldn't 'think' that congestion would be a food allergy symptom, but for all I know it could be.

He is my second and I think as his mom he is ready for some solids. He spits up already so I don't feel that I should be giving him more formula. He is already 13.5lbs he is big for his age and I am almost confident that he is ready. I was asking about if moms thought it could be an allergy not if I should be giving it to him yet. Thanks
