Is this malnutrition??? Do I call CPS on the mother???

I babysit a 18 month old and think he might be malnourished. His tummy is always sticking way out like he is bloated. To me it looks like a puppies tummy when they have worms. I have not found any worms in the feces so I ruled that out somewhat. He is also really short. My 8 month old little girl is the same size standing up as this 18 month old.

What makes me think it is malnutrition is because when ever his mother brings him over he has hardly eaten. I ask her almost every day and she has only said they ate like twice. Most of the time all he has had is juice all day. If I continue to let him drink his cup all day he will not eat. (So I have learned to take it away and give it only at meal time) I just do not think his mother is feeding him rite and I do not know how to bring this conversation up or how I should handle it. I have thought about calling CPS because she never bathes him and he wears the same dirty clothes two days in a row alot, he always has a bloody rectum, not bloody stool just bloody skin, and it worries me to see this kid like this. Please help me figure out what to do.

How often do you baby sit? What time of the day do you start babysitting? How many hours do you have him in your care?

How do you know she never bathes him? Have you asked her about the bloody skin?

Perhaps there are issues going on that you are not aware of here... Yes, it does sound bad, but I would want more information than just what you've posted before I would make the call or not.

Call them if there is any question, you may loose a client, but his well being is more important. However, it may be that mom doesn't know what the right foods to feed him are, or needs nutritional councling, in which case, they'll make sure she gets it. If you know this mom from a church or religious organization, contact the pastor/ priets/ rabbi/ etc first, they know how to help without getting social services involved, and they can do things social services can't.
