Usually hair grows 6 inches a year (from a medical books stand point) but everyone is different. My hair seems to be a little less or about that, while my boyfriends grew a foot in a year.

Massaging the scalp helps too...when you are in the shower washing your hair...do all you can to recreate that 'scrubbing' the hairdressers do...massaging your scalp.
When you get out and use a smoothing creme..or conditioning creme...massage your scalp again.
A diet high in protein...and a gelatin supplement can help strengthen hair too.

Get your hair trimmed often (like once a month or every other month). Trimming the ends stimulates growth.

My mother made me use main and tail but it was so heavy and oily that I quit. The key to growing hair long and healthy is to keep it nourished and protected from heat. I don't blow dry my hair and I use garner fructise leave in conditioner which is light but really locks in moisture.
