My daughter just turned 16 four months ago and just started dating 2 months ago. She just informed me last night that she has had sex. My heart dropped cause I never suspected that she would do it at this age, She is very church orientated and is an A student while holding down a job which she got promoted to assistant manger where she works. And also her best friend recently had a very bad experience with sex so I thought she had learned from that but her friend was around when it happened and I thought because of her experience she would discourage her from doing it. I tried to be understanding because I got pregnant with her at 17 but I can't help but be hurt and disappointed. I have always been really close to all my children so I didn't freak out but I'm confused about how to handle this news, She is the oldest of three girls and one boy. Please help me.

I don't think there's much for you to do about what happpened, but to help her and guide her to prevent. Be open and honest without freaking out. She's young, seems like she's responsible but she's still a child and this is something that was gong to happen eventually, maybe the shock for you is her age or the fact that you got pregnant young and fear the same for her. Just be there and talk to her a lot, at least she was honest and told you so take advantage of that

You need to calm down and have a heart to heart with your daughter. Explain your disappointment in her choices and then educate her about having sex these days. Talk about STD's and pregnancy at an early age. Encourage her to wait until she is older. That is all we can do as parents at this stage of their lives: guide and support.
