I had my baby 11 weeks ago by c-section and my partner and I have been trying for another baby -crazy you may think! But I am driving myself mad as I ovulated nearly 2 weeks ago and have not had a period since giving birth, all tests have been negative and I'm starting to worry about my fertility. I wondered if anyone had any advice or has been in a similar situation?

Actually, it's not about you being crazy. Have you actually spoken to your doctor about this? It is recommended to wait for at least 12 months, especially after a c-setion. You are potentially putting your health, and that of your unborn baby, at risk, and you need to question whether you have the right to do that, given your responsibilities to your current child. It's a pretty selfish decision to make.

Thank you for the articles they are very helpful. I am actually very angry that the health professionals that were looking after me did not mention a thing about this. Yes I should have looked into it before trying but I stupidly assumed I would have been told otherwise if it were not a good idea, having said that I should have known better when my health visitor suggested the pull out method as contraception! Thank you again for your advice x

I apologise if that sounded harsh. It seems your doctors and health professionals have not given you appropriate information. PLEASE stop trying to get pregnant right now,. Allow your body to heal. Do your research. It really can be an issue if you get pregnant too soon. You have just had major abdominal surgery.

Here are a couple of articles to read to start you off:

Thank you Chet mc for the advice and jodi Nothing was ever mentioned to me about any amount of time to wait by doctors or the health visitor in fact the health visitor said "if you are not wanting to have Another child just yet you could make an appointment with the doctor to talk about contraception if you feel that's what suits you" nothing else was said about it. I hadnt even considered a risk. I was looking for advice and not a telling off as I was very concerned about my fertility. I've clearly not been given the facts and would never intentionally risk myself or another baby.

You really need to wait at least six months to give your incision the time it needs to heal. Jodi is right, the standard recommendation is to wait a year, the more time your incision has to heal the better, but the risk of uterine rupture is significantly greater if you get pregnant before your baby is six months old. A uterine rupture is very serious, and another 15 weeks is not a long time to wait.

Your fertility is not something to worry about right now. Even if you're ovulated, your body needs to do a lot more to be ready for pregnancy again. Your hormones may not be entirely back to normal, and your uterus has a lot of healing to do and may not be able to receive a pregnancy yet.
