My daughter was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney reflux in her left kidney at 6 weeks old when we stayed in the hospital for a week due to a high fever. She has history of uti.
Shes been on meds to prevent uti for a year and they wanted to do a VCUG repeat at a year old to see if there has been any improvement since 6 weeks old. We just went and got that done, got the results and they show no improvement. Our pediatrician will talk with the kidney doctor on Thursday to see what he wants to do next. She says she believes he will say to continue on the meds for another year and redo the VCUG at 2 years old. My question is why not do the surgery now? Since there has been no improvement this past year. What should I expect the kidney doctor to say? Is it bad to have the surgery at 12 months? Will leaving it another year cause scarring? Is kidney reflux painful? She wakes up screaming somtimes.
I may be overly concerned but I want to make sure I know and understand about kidney reflux. Has anyones child grown out of kidney reflux? Please share your experiences and any advice is great!
