I want to start a social group for specifically for children with Asperger Syndrome and their parents in the Carroll and Frederick County Maryland areas. According to our social worker, there really aren't any groups in our area, but there is definitely a need. Let me know if you are interested. If you know someone whose child(ren) are diagnosed with Aspergers, let me know.
Kids with Asperger Syndrome don't learn social interaction skills by watching others and therefore they don't tend to benefit from traditional psychotherapy. They do best by learning social skills in a setting that is designed to actively teach social skills.
I am not a professional in this area, but I have a son with High Functioning Aspergers and I know I am not alone in Carroll and Frederick Counties (there are apparently at least 2-3 other kids in my son's kindergarten). I want to start something that can help the many other families in these 2 counties.
