My daughter is 4 going to be 5 in 3 weeks and i'm having a hard time deciding if I should send her to kindergarten or kinderstart (pre-kindergarten)? Academically she is right where she should be. She went to a 3 year old preschool and 4 year old preschool. She is having a little trouble with her speech (and meets with the speech teacher) but nothing to serious. She does have a problem with focusing. I am just so torn because I dont want her to be overwhelmed and regret sending her to kindergarten, but the kinderstart class only meets 2 full days a week and every other friday, and a five year old needs more then that! I would just like to hear other peoples point of view!

Based on my experiences so far.... I'd send her to Kindergarten. If she's on track academically and already done 2 years of preschool.... she SHOULD be ready. If it turns out she wasn't ready she can always do another year of KIndergarten.

If there is an academic or maturity problem, it's better to hold them back when they are very young. If you aren't comfortable with kindergarten, don't start her. Who says a five year old NEEDS to be in school 5 days a week? However, if you start in in Kindergarten and she doesn't do well, just put her in Kindergarten a second time. I don't think it will hurt her. And ask her pre-school teacher what she thinks. I'm sure she'd be glad to give her opinion.

well her teacher suggests kinderstart but thats what she is saying to a lot of the younger kids in class. I went to both of the classes to see what they were both like and it was the end of the year and the kinderstart class was still working on the alphabet and she alreay knows all of her letters and there sounds and has since she turned 4. The kindergarten class on the other hand was writing stories. sooo it's a huge difference.
